Suggested Reading for 25 January 2008

January is quickly coming to an end. That means that the Super Bowl is right around the corner. What does this have to do with making money on eBay? Well, absolutely nothing unless you sell Super Bowl items. It’s on our minds since we live in this year’s host city and that’s all they’re talking about around here!

Now, back to the world of eBay. The talk this week was about the 4th quarter financial reports given by eBay last Wednesday. There is also a lot of anticipation regarding next Tuesday’s eBay fee change announcement. We’re all waiting with baited breath!

Here are the selections for this week:

• The big buzz this week, as previously mentioned, has been about eBay’s 4th quarter financial results and the big announcements about the corporate leadership reshuffling that is now official. • eBay fee restructuring is to be announced on January 29th. Auctionbytes discusses this upcoming announcement here.
• The LA Times is reporting that eBay CEO Meg Whitman is considering a run for California’s governor in 2010. Since she won’t be running eBay anymore, we guess she can’t drastically switch gears and simply enjoy a Mai Tai on the beach (although we sure wouldn’t have a problem doing it! ) Instead, she’d rather be back in the spotlight. An interesting idea that will definitely be worth watching to see if/when it develops.
• And finally, a news item that will be of interest to those making money on eBay. The USPS just announced the addition of a new USPS Priority Mail Large Flat Rate Box. You can start using this box on March 3rd and it will cost $12.95 to ship domestically, $29.95 to Canada and Mexico and $49.95 to all other countries. There will be a special rate of $10.95 to APO/FPO (military) addresses. The dimensions of the new box are 12” x 12” x 5.5”.
