When is the Right Time to Start Selling on eBay Full-time?

Some of you may have the objective of selling on eBay as a way to supplement your current income. Others might want to turn their eBay selling into a profitable, full-time venture. If you are part of the latter group, let us give you some insight into when we feel it is the correct time to take the plunge into selling on eBay full-time.

Before you commit yourself to selling on eBay full-time, make sure this is what you absolutely want to do. Make sure you are in the right place in your life emotionally and financially to decide to kiss your day job (and your paycheck) goodbye and enter the world of the full-time online entrepreneur.

It pays to be patient and become proficient at selling on eBay before you quit your day job, unless you are at the point where you are going out of your mind working for The Man like we were. Do not leave the land of the steady paycheck until you are absolutely sure that it is the right thing to do and you are certain you have the skill set required to be successful.

Working for yourself as the sole source of your income is a HUGE change from what you have been used to by working for someone else. It is a huge burden at times, and very scary, to wake up in the morning (assuming you have gotten any sleep that night) and realize that it is all up to you to put food on your table and to pay the mortgage. Be sure you are ready to take on this responsibility. You have to be in the right place in your life. This life-changing decision should not be taken lightly.

Though it is hard to develop a business while working at a different full-time job, it is the prudent (and safe) way to start out. However, it is going to be quite the challenge to contact vendors/suppliers while you are working your day job. Maybe you have a nice boss who will let you use a little of the company’s time to plan your next career. Then again, if your boss was that nice, why would you want to leave your current job? Oh that’s right: The freedom that comes from working for yourself. Of course, that freedom comes with a price: Stress!

The bottom line is you should make sure you have everything lined up so that when you do finally decide to start selling on eBay full-time, you are ready to do it full steam ahead. The only exception to this would be if you are fortunate enough to have a nice cushion of money in the bank so that you can afford to quit your job and dedicate yourself full-time to your eBay venture before you will be able to recognize a nice stream of income from it. However, this approach is also stressful as you need to make sure you are making money via eBay before your savings runs out.
