David vs. Goliath: Can the Little Guy Win the Online Retail War?

December 10, 2007

The retail landscape is one of the hardest places to do business in, especially if you are a little guy. In the world of bricks and mortar retail, the mom and pop corner store has to do battle with the Wal-Marts of the world. This can get ugly really fast if you don’t take advantage of your ability to sell online.

We previously wrote about how it is to your advantage to be selling online if you own a bricks and mortar retail store. It seems that the New York Times agrees with us in a recent article entitled Small Merchants Gain Large Presence on Web.

In this article, the Times profiles several bricks and mortar retail businesses that have found ways to be successful doing online battle with the big boys. This gives hope to those that might think that they have no chance competing with established retailers. It is all in how you go about making yourself unique and where you advertise your products.

Selling online may be a hard business, but you have to be smart about how you go about it. Remember, there are many online shoppers who would rather by from the little guy then give the Wal-Marts of the world anymore of their money. There is hope for those that want to have a go at online retail.
