Is Lizard Wisdom a Legitimate Source of Information on How to Make Money on eBay?
January 2, 2008Recently, we received an email sent to the eBay user ID that we use to post on the eBay discussion boards. The person who contacted us noticed that we have been offering a bunch of advice on the discussion boards, but the user ID we use to post there has only 1 feedback. Also, they had checked out Lizard Wisdom and stated that our advice seems sound, but how can they trust someone with only 1 feedback?
Following is the response we sent regarding this issue:
“We have several eBay ID’s and sell/have sold under several eBay ID’s. We also have several for personal use. We also have this one that we use for posting on eBay Discussion Boards.
We do not choose to post using our selling ID’s as we work very, very, very hard to find reliable sources for the items that we sell. You will find that product sources are one of the most closely guarded secrets of any successful retailer, online or off. For this reason, we do not openly advertise what we sell, as this will lead to increased competition in our niche.
Ultimately, it is up to you to decide who, and what, to believe, whether you are online or face-to-face. We find it very easy to tell who is speaking from a position of experience as opposed to not knowing anything about the subject at hand.
As you said, our advice seems sound (thank you for that, as we speak the truth as we know it). It must be obvious to you that we speak from a position of knowing what we talk about. There are a lot of people online that will try to sell you a bill of goods, but we are not like that.
We would be happy to reveal our business eBay ID’s if we sold items that were hard to source, such as antiques, etc. However, since we sell new retail items that, for the most part, are available to anyone who knows where and how to look for them, we choose to not willfully bring ourselves increased competition. We hope you understand this position.”
This does raise an interesting question about what information you can trust, whether it be online or off. As we stated in the above quote, it is up to you to decide whom to trust when you are looking for information. It should be quickly apparent if a source is to be trusted.
We strive to be your trusted source for information on how to sell on eBay. We hope it is obvious as you read through this blog that we do know what we are talking about. We give you the truth, as we see it, and give you information that will help you become a success on eBay (assuming you take the initiative and do something with the information we provide).
There is a lot of misinformation regarding eBay available to anyone on the Internet. We promise to provide you with information that will help you make money on eBay.
We welcome your comments regarding any of the information that we post on Lizard Wisdom. We truly want this blog to be a community where we can all learn from each other.
Thank you for your patronage of Lizard Wisdom and we look forward to a successful 2008 for all of us!

If You Sell on eBay, You May Be Losing Billions
OK, maybe the title of this post is a bit exaggerated. However, if you are one of the millions who sell on eBay, you personally are not losing billions but, as a group, eBay sellers are.
A new study talks about

The reality of Posting ID’s is something that many sellers had to learn the hard way!
Everywhere you go on eBay and many places off eBay tout the “community” aspect of belonging to eBay. However in reality, the “public” eBay Discussion boards are some of the harshest boards I have ever seen.
If you don’t believe me go to the Feedback board and post “Who should leave feedback first?” or go to the bidding board and post “I don’t want this item can I remove my bid?”.
The most disheartening scenario is when an honest seller posts good advice and then the board trolls start ‘messing’ with that seller’s business.
I enjoy your blog, great advice.
Chuck,
Excellent points! Those are some more good reasons not to be putting out your User IDs that you depend on to make a living.
It is sad how people think it is necessary to mess with people who are only trying to help!
