Holiday 2007 Online Sales Report Issued by comScore

January 10, 2008

On Monday, comScore released their report about online sales for the 2007 holiday season, which they define as the last two months of the year. Why should this concern someone selling on eBay? Because, as someone who makes money on eBay, you are neck deep in the world of eCommerce.

comScore is reporting that online sales for the 2007 holiday season were $29.2 billion dollars, which represents a 19% growth from 2006 holiday season sales.

One thing we found interesting in this report is that Cyber Monday, the Monday after Thanksgiving, was only the 9th busiest spending day this holiday season. This is interesting in that it is the online shopping day that seems to get the most press, but it is far from the day producing the most online sales.

The day that saw the most online sales was “Green Monday” (December 10th), with $881 million dollars spent on this one day alone.

How eBay Fits Into the Picture

Now there are some detractors who have all sorts of bad things to say about eBay and will tell you all day long why selling on eBay is not a good idea. Of course, you will also find people who will tell you that the Earth is flat.

We think that eBay is the best place to start your own online business. No other place gives you the opportunity to open up shop with a very small outlay AND provide you with the traffic to actually make a sale. eBay sellers definitely got their piece of the holiday sales pie, and there is no reason why that couldn’t have been you getting in on the action.

Now is the perfect time to start honing your online skills. There is no time like the present to start learning how to sell and make money on eBay!
