How to Sell on eBay – eBay PowerSeller Explained
January 8, 2008Sorry for not posting yesterday. This weekend we made the decision to switch blog hosting providers. This became a much larger project then we initially anticipated. Yesterday was spent tying up loose ends. Let’s hope we don’t have to do that again anytime soon!
As you continue to learn more about how to sell on eBay, you undoubtedly will come across the term “eBay PowerSeller”. We have previously discussed if eBay’s New PowerSeller Requirements are Cheapening the PowerSeller Status, and we touch on the PowerSeller subject in our free, 58-page e-book on learning how to make money on eBay. However, we have never explained the basics behind the eBay PowerSeller program.
Let’s see how eBay defines the PowerSeller program:
“PowerSellers are eBay top sellers who sustain a consistent high volume of monthly sales and a high level of total Feedback –with 98% or better positive rating by other eBay users. These sellers rank among the most successful sellers in terms of product sales and customer satisfaction on eBay.”
In other words, an eBay PowerSeller is an eBay seller who meets certain requirements and is recognized by eBay for complying with eBay marketplace policy and being an all-around decent seller.
There are a few selling requirements that one must meet in order to qualify to be a PowerSeller, but for someone who is serious about selling on eBay, they are not too hard to achieve. The criteria to meet the lowest, or Bronze, PowerSeller tier are as follows:
- A minimum of $1,000 in sales, or 100 items per month, for three consecutive months
- Or, a minimum of $12,000 in sales, or 1200 items for the prior 12 months
- An overall feedback of 100, of which at least 98% must be positive
As you can see, becoming a PowerSeller does not require you to surmount that high of an obstacle. Anybody serious about making money on eBay should easily qualify to become a PowerSeller.
There are several benefits to being an eBay PowerSeller, but probably the most useful is phone support. All levels of eBay PowerSeller are eligible for phone support, and you even get an account manager once you reach the Gold PowerSeller level. Trust us when we say it is very, very handy to have someone to call at eBay if you are having issues.
There are those that will debate the virtues of the eBay PowerSeller program, but if you are going to be serious about making money selling on eBay, then you will end up becoming an eBay PowerSeller. And the perks that come with this designation are definitely a good thing. Now is the time to start increasing your eBay sales so that you can become a PowerSeller!
