New eBay Detailed Seller Rating Comparison Tool

In early 2007, eBay introduced Feedback 2.0 which allows buyers to rate sellers on four categories (Detailed Seller Ratings) when they are leaving feedback. These categories are as follows:

• Item as described
• Communication
• Shipping time
• Shipping and handling charges

Buyers are able to rank sellers, with whom they have completed a transaction, in the four categories mentioned above, on a scale of one to five stars.

Back in October, eBay discussed 2008 plans for implementing Detailed Seller Rating data, giving us a hint of things to come. This includes influencing the priority in search results and determining PowerSeller status.

eBay has also indicated that at some point in the (near?) future, the Detailed Seller Ratings will be taken into consideration in the Seller Non-Performance Policy.

With all of these new implementations of the Detailed Seller Ratings that will be here before you know it, it sure would be nice to know how you stack up against the rest of eBay.

Ask and you shall receive! ChannelAdvisor just rolled out a brand new tool they are calling DSR Watch. Now you have the ability to compare your Detailed Seller Ratings to those of your competitors, and eBay sellers in general.

With this great new tool, you can see a seller’s rating (including yours) in the four aforementioned categories, where the seller stacks up against the rest of eBay, and the number of ratings the seller has received.

How can you use this information? First, and foremost, you can see how your Detailed Seller Ratings stack up against all other eBay sellers. This may give you some insight as to how you may be affected in the future, once eBay implements the rating data into the sales process.

Also, you can see where you stack up against your competition. For example, if eBay really does use the Detailed Seller Ratings to determine where a listing appears in the search results, you might be able to determine if yours will appear higher than your competitors, or vice versa.

Give this interesting new tool a try and let us know what you think about it. Changes are afoot for the eBay seller in the year 2008. It will be very interesting to see how things shake out.
