Branding is all about identity. When people think of your business, what comes to their mind first? You want your brand to be memorable and there are necessary steps you must take to create the image you want people to see when they think of your business.
The first step in branding your business is to come up with a company name that is either catchy or describes what you are selling. However, you might want to think twice before you name your company something that is restrictive to what you sell, especially since the world is your oyster on eBay and you can sell just about anything (legal) you want.
You might want to consider purchasing the web address/domain name. See our post “Why You Should Purchase a Domain Name for Your eBay Business” for more information about this.
Now would also be a good time to have a logo designed for you. With a logo, you can start branding your company in your eBay listings, in your eBay Store, on packing lists and invoices, and anywhere else you can think of. Our very cool logo was designed by The Logo Company. They offer logo design starting at $149 and offer a 100% money-back guarantee. While there are many companies that will design a logo, we found The Logo Company’s price and service to be unbeatable.
Once your logo is designed, you should consider having business cards designed and printed for you as well. A business card is a must-have item when, for example, you go to trade shows, as most people you talk to will ask you for a business card. A great, reliable place to get your business cards printed is PrintingForLess.com (www.PrintingForLess.com). We have used them several times in the past and have been very happy with the service they have provided. They take the time to go through the project with you and make sure you are satisfied. The best part is if you use the Referral Code of RP1K9A54Y when you place your first order, you will receive $25 off of their already low prices.
Another great way to brand your business is to take that one extra step and actually have some t-shirts printed with your logo and domain name on the front and back. This can be a great conversation starter and is certainly an excellent way to do some relatively inexpensive advertising for your company. Have enough printed to give to family and friends and let them walk around generating business for you.
We had our t-shirts printed by Zazzle. They make it super simple to upload your logo and quickly design the front and back of your t-shirts. You have a variety of shirt styles and colors to choose from. They also offer hats, bags, cards, calendars, mugs and even postage stamps that you can personalize. Also, Zazzle keeps adding new products for you to customize. They have worked well for us and we think you will be satisfied when you use them.
The best part about having a logo designed, as well as business cards, t-shirts and other marketing material printed for you is, if you are a legitimate business, these are all a tax write-off (please consult a tax professional for details). Tax write-offs are one of the many benefits of being a real business. (See “Why You Should Set up Your eBay Selling as a Legal Business”)
As you can see, there is quite a bit that goes into branding your business. If you want to own and operate a truly professional business, we would recommend that you take some, if not all, of the steps outlined above and brand your business the right way.
